Call for Special Election
Verizon has donated $2.5 million to Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to support small businesses that are faced with having to close their doors to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus. LISC will use the funds to provide grants of up to $10,000 to businesses facing immediate financial pressure, especially entrepreneurs of color, women-owned businesses and other enterprises that don’t have access to flexible, affordable capital in historically under-served communities. LISC will launch an online process for small businesses to submit applications for grants. Applications will be reviewed and then entered into a lottery. The grants are designed to help business owners fill urgent financial gaps from paying rent to meeting payroll until they can resume normal operations or other financing becomes available. You can learn more about this program HERE.

In November 2018, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved changes to Michigan Election Law. One of these changes is the ability to vote absentee (also known as vote by mail) without a specific reason. We encourage voters of all ages to call the City Clerk’s Office at 313-800-5233 ext. 821 or stop by the window in City Hall and ask to be put on the “Permanent AV List”. Voters on this list will automatically receive an Application for Absentee Ballot for each election cycle every year.
