The City of Hamtramck has been working with federal, state and local officials since the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and remains committed to the safety of our residents. Please consult the State of Michigan website for the most recent information and to subscribe to future news updates.

At this time, Hamtramck City Hall is closed until further notice. In an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, we are following the recommendations of the Governor and further encouraging residents to take all necessary precautions including limiting their non-essential visits to City Hall. Please use this website for bill payment options, to find contact information for all departments, or to review other information that will allow you to conduct most city business via email, on-line or by telephone (313) 800-5233. Verizon has donated $2.5 million to Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to support small businesses that are faced with having to close their doors to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus. LISC will use the funds to provide grants of up to $10,000 to businesses facing immediate financial pressure, especially entrepreneurs of color, women-owned businesses and other enterprises that don’t have access to flexible, affordable capital in historically under-served communities. LISC will launch an online process for small businesses to submit applications for grants. Applications will be reviewed and then entered into a lottery. The grants are designed to help business owners fill urgent financial gaps from paying rent to meeting payroll until they can resume normal operations or other financing becomes available. Workers in the hospitality industry who have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus crisis may apply for $500 grants.

Election News

In November 2018, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved changes to Michigan Election Law. One of these changes is the ability to vote absentee (also known as vote by mail) without a specific reason. We encourage voters of all ages to call the City Clerk’s Office at 313-800-5233 ext. 821 or stop by the window in City Hall and ask to be put on the “Permanent AV List”. Voters on this list will automatically receive an Application for Absentee Ballot for each election cycle every year.
