The application will be accepted by sealed envelope until 4 pm, Friday, April 30th. Please place bids in the drop box outside of City Hall.
City of Hamtramck Welcomes All to Develop Residential Homes!
The City of Hamtramck is pleased to announce the City’s Residential Lot Sale program. The application is now available online at https://hamtramck.us/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/RFQ_CityHamtramck2021_v7.1_ReviewPacket.pdf for qualified residents, investors and developers. Interested parties would develop and transform vacant, municipal-owned residential lots to build new residential multi-family or single-family housing within the city.
With a population of over 22,000 and an area of 2.1 square miles, Hamtramck is a densely populated, culturally vibrant city. As the population continues to grow, the need for expanded housing opportunities is apparent. Hamtramck seeks to diversify the types of housing available to current and future residents, including detached traditional houses, cottages as accessory dwellings, townhouses, urban lofts in the downtown, and other “Missing Middle Housing” formats. Developing unused properties will strengthen the surrounding neighborhoods by encouraging economic stability and safety in historically under-resourced areas. Hamtramck’s inclusive approach to development seeks to enhance the existing structure of the city, while maintaining and amplifying its cultural diversity and immigrant roots.
The application packet is available on the City of Hamtramck’s website. The application packet includes the application, process for submission, visual aide to understand the City’s Zoning Ordinance, pre-development Zoom meeting invitations, and information identifying available properties. This is the first phase out of three for the City’s Residential Lot Sale program. Not all City owned lots are included within the first phase.
The application will be accepted by sealed envelope until 4 pm, Friday, April 23rd. The City will also host two (2) virtual community meetings to discuss and explain the application process and answer questions from potential applicants. The community meetings will be held by way of Zoom and are scheduled for April 13th at 2 pm and April 15th at 9 am. The meeting links can be found below. Please contact the CED Department if you should require translation services or accommodations to attend the Zoom meeting.
